Have you had overnight oats yet? I eat overnight oats a few mornings a week and I really love them. Oats are high in fiber and protein and they contain zinc, iron, magnesium and manganese. Oats have been shown to improve cholesterol levels as well as help with heart health. By soaking your oats overnight you’re reducing phytic acid and increasing resistant starch which is good for you gut and digestive health. I personally love how convenient and easy overnight oats are. You can customize them however you’d like by mixing in nuts, fruits, seeds, cocoa nibs and seeds. You may not realize this; but oats also contain melatonin which can help you sleep. Overnight oats are also a healthy bedtime snack or dessert!
Here are some of the brands I love that make overnight oats prepackaged. You just add milk and store overnight.
RYZE—I love RYZE mushroom overnight oats. You don’t taste any mushrooms you just get the benefits from these superfoods. RYZE has a really great mushroom coffee too.
Kreatures of Habit—I know the founder of KOH his name is Michael Chernow. He’s a really cool guy and has been sober for over twenty years. He created a really tasty high protein easy to make breakfast. KOH has some great flavors and it’s great to travel with.
Holos—I really like this overnight muesli, it’s like oatmeal but elevated. Holos already adds the mix ins so you have the extra nuts and dried fruits or flavor. Holos had delicious flavors and also comes in a bulk package as well.
Mush is already premade and you can just buy it at the store and grab and go in the morning. I typically add a hard boiled egg or two when I eat mush to get a bit more protein and to keep me sated longer. I love their peanut butter flavor. I also love the dark chocolate and apple cinnamon, I add walnuts to both of those.
Ok now for my easy recipe if you want to make your own overnight oats. These are great for meal prep and can be stored in the fridge for up to one week. I love not having to think about anything in the morning besides grabbing my breakfast and enjoying it before the kids wake up.
½ cup whole rolled oats (Make sure they are old fashioned oats. Quick oats and steel-cut oats will NOT work here.)
1 tablespoon chia seeds (this adds extra protein and thickness)
1/2 tsp maple syrup or honey (for added sweetness or leave it out)
Pinch of sea salt (to make the oats extra yummy)
⅔ cup Ripple milk (or unsweetened almond milk or any milk of choice) I personally like Ripple because it adds more protein
1/2-1 scoop protein powder (optional)
You can then have fun with different flavors:
Apple pie
3 crushed walnuts
diced apple
tsp cinnamon
tsp honey or maple syrup
Banana Bread
1/4 cup greek yogurt
1/2 sliced banana
3 crushed walnuts
tsp cinnamon
Peanut Butter & Jelly
1 tbsp peanut butter
1 tsp jam of choice
1 tsp crushed peanuts
Chocolate Chip
1/4 greek yogurt
1 tsp cocoa powder
1 tbsp mini chocolate chips
1/2 tsp maple syrup
Almond Delight
1 tbsp shredded coconut
1 tbsp chopped almonds
1 tsp mini chocolate chips
1 tsp maple syrup or sweetener of choice
Tropical
1 tbsp dried mango
1 tbsp coconut flakes
1 tsp honey
1 tsp macadamia nuts
Play around with your mix-ins. You can add any fruit fresh or dried. Vary the flavor of protein powders you’re using. You can add 1/4 pumpkin pie filling for pumpkin flavored oats. Once you have your base, it’s really easy to experiment with new flavors. Let your kids join in and make them with you and they’ll be more apt to eat them in the morning
.
Can't wait to try!♥️
Thank you for this. Breakfast is always "what to eat" in this house. These suggestions will up the routine. Just ordered the Holos and looking forward to trying your recipes too.
